From Ken Garner, Ashby & Coalville Lions:
“Despite the floods, despite the Tesla car stuck under the railway bridge on Station Road and the broken down BMW blocking North Street, the annual Ashby and Coalville Lions Statutes Monday morning went full steam ahead. Yes, the Pat Collins Fun Fair was back in Market Street, Ashby de la Zouch, and every year the fair is specifically opened on the Monday morning for children with special needs, 2023 being the 45th year! Special mention has to go the Anthony and Christina Harris, Pat Collins Fun Fair, for making the rides free of charge and to Andrew Perry (son of a former Lion) who dragged the Tesla out from under the railway bridge using his Land Rover as he realised many of the coaches and vehicles carrying children to the fair had to come in that way.
“Enjoying the Statutes’ Monday Morning is the highlight of Ashby & Coalville Lions’ year, and it is supported by the local community. The event could not take place without parking spaces for all the double decker buses, coaches, minibuses and cars used to transport the children. Consequently, the Lions are very grateful to Manston Investments who provided parking for 8 minibuses and 13 cars carrying over 120 guests to the fair.
“In total, over 500 children with special needs and helpers from schools in North West Leicestershire, Leicester, Tamworth, Burton upon Trent, Loughborough, and Hinckley, had a great time, and the rain (forecast to be heavy) held off!”
